The Anita White Foundation at the University of Chichester is pleased to invite submissions for the Celia Brackenridge International Research Award.

The aim of the Award is to recognise and promote excellence in scholarship on child welfare in sport and/or women and sport. The award is part of the continued legacy of Professor Brackenridge’s research and activism on these two themes.

The Anita White Foundation offers this award within our broader aims of contributing to the preservation of the heritage of women in sport and to facilitate research.


We are offering an award of five hundred pounds (£500) for an entry that demonstrates excellence in published sociological scholarship on child welfare in sport and/or on women and sport.

Entry Eligibility: Application is open to early career researchers. These are researchers who are currently undertaking doctoral studies or were awarded doctoral degrees after January 2015.

Entries: We invite submissions of published scholarship that is within the subjects of child welfare in sport and/or women and sport. Please browse the various sections of this website to see how your work fits with the themes of Professor Celia Brackenridge’s work.


To submit an entry, please download and fill in the entry form  and attach a file or a link to the file you are submitting.

We welcome submissions in a variety of formats, including journal articles, book chapters, theses, and project reports. The important thing is that these demonstrate excellent scholarship on the subject of child welfare in sport and/or women and sport. The winner will be announced at the end of September 2018 on the ChangeMakers website.


The award is to be spent on activities or expenses related to scholarship and research. Some examples are professional development, scholarly events, subscriptions to scholarly publications, and membership to professional associations. The award is to be spent within ten months of receipt. The recipient will be required to submit a report of not more than 500 words on how they used the award. The Anita White Foundation reserves the right to withdraw the award if necessary.
